Spring Break is always a long awaited vacation for most high school students. It signifies the halfway point of the semester and usually comes with a welcomed change in weather, as well as a break from the normal school day schedule. Luke and some guys from Millington and Bolton went to Arkansas for the weekend with a couple guys from Central High School and their leader Stephen. It was a great time getting to know one another and having some fun shared experiences! We had tons of fun enjoying a cabin in the mountains, playing card games, sharing meals together, getting to hear each other's stories around the camp fire, and going on adventures together. We went to Blanchard Springs and Blanchard Springs Caverns for a fun outing outdoors and underground. Most had never been in a cave or hiking before! We also braved the cold waters of the river behind the cabin and went for a swim down some rapids! Jamal and Deiontrez had their first s'more as well. At our last meal together, we talked about the Prodigal Son, his elder brother, and their father and how we fit in that story and how seeing God as a perfect Father changes our view of Him. We are continually leading kids to Jesus and hopeful that they will see how loved they are and the abundant life that awaits them in Him. Thanks for reading! School started one month ago, and we have been with kids since day one. There have been many opportunities to be with kids such as girls' soccer games, tailgating before home football games, and getting upper classmen together to plan for our new year of club. We have sent off many students to college and seen them get plugged in to Young Life College there. We remembered Dana Payne, the MCHS football player who died in practice in 2012. He would've been a senior this year. Young Life leaders walk through the ups and downs of life with high school students. We are grateful for the seat we have in the lives of kids. Thank you for praying for and supporting us! If you would like to know more about joining us, please contact us! October was a great month to be in the lives of high school kids here in North Shelby and South Tipton Counties. With Fall Break, we were able to take kids on new adventures like horseback riding, canoeing, and camping. Our weekly Clubs have been packed out with 60-80 kids each week. We just had out Halloween Young Life Club led by the seniors and it was one of the most fun meetings that we have had all fall. We also had our Banquet last week where kids served as Work Crew, and our community was able to see the vision and hope for our ministry. Many people joined us as either prayer partners, donors, or even expressed interest in learning more about volunteering. We are excited about these new venues and partners in ministry. If you would like to know more or get involved, please contact us. The spring semester of Young Life is such an unpredictable time! With spring sports and spring weather, it is hard to know who is playing when and where. It also makes for interesting Mondays when soccer, softball, baseball, and track all have a game on the same night!
I love how are Young Life leaders have gone with the flow. -Daniel, a new leader, made his way to the soccer game last week. -Leaders, Tina and Jessica, both went to the same softball game at different times. Divide and conquer, right? -I have been making my way to a couple baseball games and have been spending most of my time helping with football weightlifting on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays after school. "We loved you so much that we wanted to share with not only the Good News, but our lives too because you had become so dear to us." - 1 Thess 2:8 NLT We go because the love of Christ compels us. Will you pray for us as we go? Thank you! Young Life Club 3/18/13
What a fun night! Had some SharpTop sign ups come in, which is answered prayer! Tina led music with me. It was her first time leading music. She did great. She brought a ton of energy and enthusiasm. Mixer was girls pulling apart guys and guys pulling apart girls. This mixer can get out of hand pretty quick, but I think we flirted the line well of everyone laughing and smiling with no one getting a dislocated shoulder or hip. Thomas and DJ were in the game, so girls put the clothespins on their face until time ran out. Thomas went mind over matter and could handle 42 (pic above)! My wife, Jessica, talked about Martha and Mary and Jesus. She showed how Martha filled her life with things that made her busy, but not whole. Mary was content because she had Jesus. She used a great illustration of a large cutout of a heart with a hole in it, and filled it with various things representing the things high school people tend to fill their life with, such as sports, relationships, school, sex, partying, and money. Each one of those things went right into the heart but did not fill the hole. Only a foam ball with "Jesus" written on it could fill the void, and not just fill it, but over fill it to show how Jesus in us fills our heart and overflows out of our life. Our prayer is that kids will understand their need, so that they might see a willing Savior awaiting to meet it. I pray the same for me. And for you. Will you pray with us? Well, we are on our last day of Spring Break here in Shelby County! We had a great week with our high school friends sharing life together. It started on Monday night when the fellas and I loaded up, and headed out to the Barnhart's to camp out in their treehouse and play on the property. We ran around in the dark, playing "Manhunt". We did zip lines, and we canoed out to their sail boat (above picture). The highlight was definitely sitting around the fire, eating food we cooked in the fire, and talking about real life. The low light was the low 30 degree temperatures we slept in. Brrrr!
The girls had pizza and watched a movie with Jessica at our house. She had 17 show up! What a crowd! She said it was fun time to be with them. Wednesday I took some guys to play laser tag. Hard to not have fun playing laser tag! Thursday we had a bunch of guys and girls over to play games, as I cooked burgers and hot dogs. We enjoyed sharing our lives with kids this week, but we are beat! We are looking forward to the weekend to rest and reconnect with each other. Please pray for us, our marriage, and our ministry, sharing Jesus with lost kids. |
